Stamping

Every J. Alan Pipe has been hand marked from the beginning.  I would like to explain the brief history of my stamping as clearly as possible on this page.

The earliest of my pipes were hand engraved with my signature, but I promise that you will never see one of these.  Ever.  Engraving lasted for only 7 pipes though, none of which were offered for sale.

Then beginning with my eighth pipe, the engraving tool was abandoned for hand stamps.  Each pipe, from then on, has been stamped with the nomenclature “J ALAN” followed by a series of 5 numbers.  The first three numbers indicate the pipe’s number relative to the whole body of my work.  The final two numbers indicate the year of production.  Thus, the pipe marked "035 05" is the 35th pipe J. Alan Pipe that has been created, and it was made in 2005. Additionally, “USA” was added to the total at the end of 2004.  An example of the total stamping may be seen below.

After much deliberation and work with my graphic designer and stampmaker, I have settled upon a new logo that was introduced with my 49th pipe.  This stamp will be applied in addition to the number and date stamps present in the previous nomenclature.
